Summer of Growth and Creativity

Despite the heat, throughout summer 2024 Environmental Humanities faculty and students joined others on campus and from the community to keep veggies and creativity growing at the Baylor Community Garden (BCG).  Every Wednesday and Saturday from 9-11, folks faithfully showed up to weed, water, turn compost, and decorate the beds with carbon-absorbing paint generously supplied by Pinnacle Paints in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Contributors of all ages joined in!  

Everything was expertly guided by Andrea Valdez, the inaugural Community Garden and Urban Agriculture Outreach Program Manager at Baylor. Andrea's position was established this summer in partnership between the College of Arts and Sciences, Environmental Humanities, and Office of Sustainability.

We've received more paints to keep up the collective creativity, so come out to keep the produce and artwork flourishing every Wednesday and Saturday this semester during the BCG's regular volunteer hours. Pinnacle has also supplied paints for a major mural project at the garden also supported generously by Student Government. Students, keep your eyes out for announcements about the contest to submit your ideas for the mural!  Winners will be paid and supplied with all they need to create a mural on the large wall behind the garden that expresses its mission to become a living laboratory for environmental discovery, creativity, and community health.
